Solid waste containment for cleaner handling and transport
Accent EnviroBale is a solid waste containment system designed to enclose baled waste and virtually eliminate material fall-out. By containing the bale inside a dedicated bag, the system can improve cleanliness around the baler, handling areas and transport operation.
The concept was developed specifically for the waste management industry. It addresses the material loss, cleaning requirements and transport preparation associated with conventional wire-baled solid waste while integrating with double-ram balers.
Reduce loading, unloading and transport requirements
Conventional wire-baled waste can require tying and tarping before transportation. EnviroBales only require tying down before transport to landfill. By keeping loose material inside the bag, the system can simplify loading and unloading and reduce the amount of litter lost around transport vehicles and handling areas.
This can translate into savings in labour and transport preparation, particularly where material fall-out would otherwise need to be collected and cleaned repeatedly.
A cleaner working environment
Material fall-out around a waste processing facility creates additional cleaning work and contributes to litter, odour and vermin. EnviroBale contains the compressed material immediately after baling, reducing the amount of loose waste around the process.
A cleaner environment can reduce labour spent on clean-up, support productivity and limit wear and tear on handling equipment caused by loose material. The original EnviroBale concept also identifies reduced odour and vermin as benefits of improved containment.
Benefits at the landfill
Containment continues to provide benefits after transport. EnviroBale bags can reduce unloading time and significantly decrease litter at the landfill. The contained bales can be used to increase bale layers per cell and can form walls that reduce the need to tarp vertical faces.
By reducing loose waste, the system can also help limit birds and vermin around the landfill and contribute to cleaner leachate.
How the EnviroBale system works
EnviroBale is designed for use with double-ram balers. After compaction, the bale is ejected from the chamber in a single stroke and held in the EnviroBale nozzle. The next bale then pushes the first bale into the EnviroBale bag.
Once contained, the bale can be loaded onto a transport vehicle and sent to landfill. The sequence uses the existing bale movement within the process, allowing the containment system to be integrated into a solid waste processing facility.
Designed by the waste industry for waste operations
The EnviroBale system was developed in 2004 by Nic Borrelli, General Manager of Research and Development at Integrated Waste Services. The concept came from first-hand experience of the costs and productivity constraints associated with traditional wire-tied waste bales.
That operational starting point remains central to the product: it is a containment system focused on reducing loose material between the baler and the landfill rather than simply changing the tying material.
Containment across the complete bale journey
The advantage of containment is not limited to the moment the bale leaves the baler. Loose material can create work at several stages: around the production area, during loading, on the vehicle, during unloading and at the landfill. EnviroBale is designed to keep the waste contained through those stages rather than relying on additional clean-up after material has escaped.
This makes the system relevant as an operational solution rather than only a packaging product. The bag becomes part of the handling process from bale production through to final placement, with the objective of reducing the recurring consequences of litter and material fall-out.
